Binhu District in Wuxi saw 11 and 21 percent growth in visitor numbers and tourism revenues, respectively, over this year's Spring Festival, welcoming 1 million visitors from Feb 8 to 14.
According to Binhu tourism bureau, a total of 14 bed and breakfasts (B&Bs) in Nianhua Bay, a modern Buddhist resort at Lingshan scenic spot had an average occupancy rate of 84 percent during the holiday, surpassing all the resort hotels in the area.
"The success lies in the immersive tourism experience," said one B&B owner. "We are able to meet multiple tourism demands of visitors no matter whether they want a standard double room or a delicate inn with a courtyard."
With 14 B&Bs featuring different styles, Nianhua Bay even attracted many local residents wanting to spend the night.
Besides the B&Bs, a series of activities held at Lingshan scenic spot also added to the all-round tourism experience. One such activity, an art exhibition named Zen Journey, left visitors deeply impressed as it showed cultural scenes of traditional life and the monastic lifestyle of transcribing sutra, meditation, alms gathering, and walking meditation. "We should thank the weather as well," a tourism bureau official said.
The resort plans to add about 400 B&B rooms in the future.
