Wuxi was recognized as one of China's smartest cities in the 5th Smart City Expo, held in Ningbo, Zhejiang province on Sept 10.
The city found success in a number of different categories in the biennial awards ceremony, coming in fifth in the list of top Chinese cities smart infrastructure construction and ranking in the top ten for smart city construction.
Wuxi's National Hi-tech District, also known as Xinwu district, was also awarded for its efforts in pushing forward smart city construction in the area.
Zhang Keping, director of the city's information and radio administration bureau, meanwhile, was named the leading man in his field and appointed executive president of the association of China's top 100 smart cities.
In recent years, Wuxi has made huge strides in transforming itself into a smart city, launching a three-year plan to establish a big data center, building four service platforms covering the fields of e-government, city management, economic operation and public welfare, and initiating 25 model application projects.
The city is also positioning itself as a global center for Internet of Things technology, setting up 13 IoT industry alliances to deepen cooperation with global leaders in the field such as Microsoft and Siemens.
Wuxi companies have undertaken IoT projects for more than 20 Chinese provinces and 30 countries worldwide.
Now, Wuxi is striving to enhance smart services in transportation, social security, health care and environmental protection.
