US-based mobile app Uber officially launched its car service in Wuxi, Jiangsu province on Jan 6. The app was simultaneously launched in ten additional cities throughout the province, including Nantong, Changzhou and Lianyungang, Wuxi Daily reported.
Compared with taxi, Uber enjoys lower fares. Passengers can also share real-time route updates with Uber's mobile app on their social media accounts, such as WeChat and QQ, providing real-time location updates for their relatives and friends for enhanced safety.
"Uber has accrued many useful service experience during its operation in Nanjing and Suzhou, and it has made full preparations for coming into Wuxi", said Li Fengbo, general manager of Uber's Jiangsu branch. Even before official operations have begun in Wuxi, a large numbers of local citizens have already downloaded the app, indicating a huge market need in the city.
Wuxi locals can enjoy the benefits of a two-week long promotion offering a half-off discount when they use Uber's service for first time between 7:00 and 21:00.
