Gao Tong

Gao Tong graduated in broadcast journalism from Missouri University in the US. She started her career as a reporter at the famous American news network NBC, before moving to Newsy, an online media start-up that produced short-form video content.

Impressed by this experience, she returned to China in 2013 and founded a short video production company called Wuxi Micro-vision Media two years later.

When she first started trying to promote short video content in China, there was still no 4G mobile network in the country and videos would take minutes to buffer.

But the form has now become hugely popular, and Gao's business has boomed. Her videos now regularly get more than 100,000 hits, and she has signed deals to work with major news organizations including Xinhua.
