Wuxi has five railway stations, four of them are for passenger service: Wuxi Railway Station, Wuxi East Station, Wuxi Huishan Station and Wuxi New District Station, while one is only for cargo service: Wuxi South Station.

There are two important railway lines – the Shanghai-Nanjing high-speed railway and the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway both pass through Wuxi.

Shanghai-Nanjing high-speed railway

The Shanghai-Nanjing high-speed railway, also called the Huning high-speed railway, runs through Shanghai, Suzhou, Wuxi, Changzhou, Zhenjiang and Nanjing. Construction began in July 2008, and it was put into service on July 1, 2010.

The railway is roughly 300 kilometers long, spanning the distance between 31 stations; with maximum speed reaching 350 kilometers per hour. It takes only 73 minutes to get from Shanghai to Nanjing, 55 minutes from Wuxi to Nanjing, and 34 minutes from Wuxi to Shanghai.

Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway

The Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway, also called the Jinghu high-speed railway, is one of the greatest high-speed railway projects in China. With a total length of 1,318 kilometers, the railway line is conveniently connected to both the Circum-Bohai Sea economic zone and the Yangtze River Delta economic zone. It runs through Beijing city, Hebei province, Tianjin city, Shandong province, Jiangsu province, Anhui province and Shanghai city. Construction started in April 2008, and lasted for about 3 years. It was completed in June 2011. Similarly, the maximum speed can also reach a rapid 350 kilometers per hour, taking about 4.5 hours to travel the full distance of the railway line.
