Three of Wuxi's intangible cultural heritages have been included in the first selection from the national catalog of traditional crafts jointly released recently by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology
Alongside another 383 traditional craft projects from 14 categories, Wuxi embroidery, Yixing purple clay pottery and Yixing Jun-glazed pottery were selected for their historical significance and development potential.
As an important component of The Plan on Revitalizing China's Traditional Crafts, which calls for more effective industry management and increased market competitiveness, Wuxi's government will focus on promoting the continuation of these three intangible cultural heritages.
The plan was drafted by the Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and Ministry of Finance, and approved by the State Council in March 2017. The plan aims to accelerate the protection of traditional Chinese culture and heritage. It calls for substantial industry-wide improvements to be made by 2020.

Traditional crafts are set to play a significant role in the plan, creating job opportunities with incomes set to increase as industrial structures become increasingly diversified.
Strides will be taken to improve the design, production and quality of traditional cultural products with the introduction of higher-quality materials and a modern management system.
The plan also encourages enterprises and traditional craftspeople to guard their secret techniques, apply for relevant trademarks and understand their intellectual property rights.
Further efforts should be made, the plan detailed, to enhance the promotion and sales of traditional products, with displays and roadshows at popular tourism sites a strong recommendation.
