Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province, was chosen as the host of the 2021 World Taekwondo Championships and the World Para Taekwondo Championships at the World Taekwondo Extraordinary Council Meeting, held in Fujairah, the United Arab Emirates on Nov 21.
Wuxi, a former industrial city, is investing heavily in the sport. It was the host and sponsor of the World Taekwondo Grand Slam, inaugurated in 2017, and the World Taekwondo Federation opened its Chinese agency in Wuxi on July 26.
During the World Taekwondo Extraordinary Council Meeting, Wuxi was represented by Liu Xia, vice mayor of the city.

Liu played a promotional video and introduced the city as the host of 2018 World Fencing Championships and 2017 Snooker World Cup, showing that the city was experienced and able to be the host of world sports events.
"I am happy and excited. We will do our best in preparing for these big events," said Liu after Wuxi won the honor of host city with a full vote.
"China now has a say in World Taekwondo and we can set our 'Wuxi standards' while helping establish the rules for international taekwondo competitions," said Guan Jianmin, President of the Chinese Taekwondo Association.
"This is a tremendous improvement and will greatly push forward the development of the sport here in China."
Wuxi city will build an advanced new venue for the 2021 World Taekwondo Championships in Taihu New City, Binhu district.
