Meanwhile, Jiangjin has also stepped up ecological restoration. According to a government plan, the city by 2020 will have constructed a raft of parks along the Yangtze River and Grand Canal transits of the city over a total length of 30 kilometers.

The refuse incineration power plant in the eastern part of Wuxi's Xishan district, another tour stop, also epitomizes the city's attempts to seek green development.

Operated by China Everbright International Limited, the 16.6-hectare plant, opened in October, 2017, has a capacity of 2,000 tons of waste per day, 45 percent of the refuse generated in the city.

The facility's establishment saves 8.5 tons of standard coal annually and reduces emissions of carbon dioxide by 22.27 tons per year. According to an engineer at the plant, both the plant's equipment and emission volumes meet European Union standards.
