Paying for public transport in Wuxi by phone

With the widespread use of mobile payment technology, people are increasingly using their smartphones to pay for things.

Since May 17, 2017, Wuxi Metro has been operating a mobile app named Ma Shang Xing, allowing people in the city to take the metro by simply scanning the QR code in the app when entering the station.

The app has been optimized further since it was first launched.

On March 29, 2019, new functions were added following tests and upgrading, making it possible for people to use the app to ride buses in the city.

At present, the QR code can be used in Fujian province when taking the metro in Fuzhou and buses in Xiamen. It is expected that the app will soon work in other cities, including Suzhou in Jiangsu province and Nanchang in Jiangxi.

The app is simple to use on Wuxi's buses and metro system –– just check out this handy guide:

Step 1

Open the app and find the two items circled. The red one is for taking the metro and the other is for taking the bus. [Photo/govt.chinadaily.com.cn]

Step 2

Note:

1. Due to technical problems, some of the buses in Wuxi New District do not currently support this service.

2. If you encounter any problems, please call one of these hotlines for further information. (For metro services: +86-510-81966666, for buses: +86-510-82588088)

3. The app also offers other convenient services, including umbrella rental, luggage delivery and lost and found information.
