The city of Hamilton, New Zealand, established its sister city friendship with Wuxi on July 5, 1986.
Located in the middle of Waikato, the richest husbandry area of New Zealand, and with the longest river in the country, Waikato River, passing through it, Hamilton is New Zealand's 4th largest city with an area of 300 square kilometers and a population of 100,000.
Hamilton is home to more than 40,000 tertiary students, mostly enrolled in one of the city's three main tertiary institutes; the University of Waikato, Hamilton Normal College, and Waikato Institute of Technology. Hamilton is also famous for its conference center, where several important domestic and international conferences are held there every year.
