Sunan Shuofang International Airport in Wuxi opened a new intercontinental cargo air service to Frankfurt-Hahn Airport in Germany on Sept 15, which will mainly transport electronics products and related accessories to the European Union.

Two intercontinental cargo flights to Hahn and Cincinnati in the United States were introduced first in May last year. Sunan Shuofang International Airport became the first in Jiangsu province to have six overseas cargo air flights a week.

The total amount of cargo came in at 88,500 tons in the year until August at Sunan Shuofang International Airport, a year-on-year increase of 17.5 percent which is well above the average growth in the industry.

The rapid development of Sunan Shuofang Airport has benefited greatly from the strong local economy and high demand in the outbound tourism market.

Sunan Shuofang Airport will increase the number of international cities it flies to -- including Nagoya in Japan and Malaysia this year -- along with the number of entry ports for goods such as imported fruit, to attract more international cargo airlines to settle in Wuxi.
