Potters from all over the world gathered in Dingshu town, Yixing, which has been known as the home of purple clay since Sept 29, to create artwork and interact with other potters.
The event, entitled the 1st Qianshu Dragon Kiln Woodfired Creation Festival, was sponsored by the Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts and the Dingshu Town People's Government and will run until Oct 20.
Over 20 overseas potters from America, Germany, France, Japan, and 10 other countries were invited to create artwork in Dingshu and fire their works at the Qianshu Dragon Kiln, which was built during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). It is the only existing Dragon Kiln in Yixing and fires ceramics in a traditional way.
