Wuxi, in eastern China's Jiangsu province, is playing a vital role in promoting technological innovation integration along the Yangtze River Delta area.
Sun Haidong, director of Wuxi Science and Technology Bureau, said that they have been working to improve the regional innovation system, build and share innovation platforms with surrounding cities, realize cross-regional technological breakthroughs and promote technology transformation and connection.
The volume of technical contracts is expected to exceed 25 billion yuan ($2.58 billion) this year, accounting for 2.04 percent of the total GDP, Sun said.
Wuxi city plans to develop new industries such as the internet of things, integrated circuits and biomedicine by making breakthroughs on core technologies, improving research and innovation and looking for high-quality development solutions.
More financial capital, skilled workers, innovation resources and national institutes are expected to be introduced to help develop technological innovation in Wuxi.
"More importantly, we should take advantage of our strong and unique industries and try to make more breakthroughs, like we did in the internet of things industry," said Sun, adding that the city will mainly support the development of core technologies in new industries next year.
