A total of 40 negative-pressure ambulances produced by the Wuxi branch of Chinese carmaker SAIC Maxus Automotive Co were transported to Wuhan, the epicenter of the novel coronavirus outbreak, from Nanjing on Feb 19.

Following an order placed by the central government, workers at the Wuxi branch have been working overtime to produce negative-pressure ambulances since Jan 24 to help fight against the virus outbreak.

Negative-pressure ambulances have proven to be effective in preventing the spread of the virus while transporting infectious patients.

The first group of 60 negative-pressure ambulances have already been put into operation in Wuhan. The 40 currently in transit are expected to arrive in Wuhan tomorrow morning, according to the company.

The company said it has sent 172 negative-pressure ambulances to date.
