As COVID-19 spreads rapidly outside China, Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province has mandated a 14-day quarantine for inbound travelers from overseas coronavirus hotspots in addition to existing quarantine checks and inquiries.
Over 120 people from South Korea, Japan, Italy, and Iran returning to the Wuxi Economic Development Zone are now under medical quarantine and observation. Various local communities have organized special teams to provide help to those in need.
Felicia Gladys Reynolds, who returned from America on March 1 after a stopover in South Korea, is now under medical quarantine and observation at her home in Shidaiyaju Community. Community workers visited Felicia as soon as she got home and gave her their contact details.
According to Shidaiyaju Community, a total of 12 overseas families are currently under medical quarantine and observation at home. Community members are helping them receive mail, taking out their garbage, and providing them with fresh food and vegetables every day.
Lee Mi-ra and her two children were picked up from the Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport by a chartered car on Feb 29. As she had just come from South Korea, Lee received Chinese-Korean notices related to epidemic prevention and medical quarantine from her community.
Lee spoke highly of her community's workers for their courteous and attentive service.
Pieters Danielle Elizabeth from America finished her 14-day quarantine period on March 8. She thanked her community, especially a worker named Zou Xian, who talked to her every day via WeChat to help put her mind at ease.
As foreigners have been cooperative with Wuxi's epidemic prevention and control efforts, it has managed to keep a lid on the spread of the virus.
