A number of Wuxi companies have been gearing up to fulfill their overseas orders via the internet as the country's largest trade event, China Import and Export Fair, is scheduled to be conducted online due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The China Import and Export Fair, or Canton Fair, is widely known as a barometer of China's foreign trade and is held twice a year in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province.
In recent years, many Wuxi companies have participated in the fair as a means of opening up foreign markets.
According to officials, 386 Wuxi companies will take part in the 127th session of the fair online from June 15 to 24, a year-on-year increase of 17.3 percent. The participants cover many industries such as large mechanical equipment, motorcycles, electric vehicles, chemical products, hardware tools, household items, and textiles and clothing.
Wuxi Municipal Bureau of Commerce has given many suggestions to help companies become familiar with e-commerce platforms. They suggested companies learn on well-known e-commerce platforms such as Alibaba and Made in China to learn the operation modes, and display their goods through multimedia to increase customer interest.
As the internet already plays a big role in people's lives and business activities, organizing the event online is an innovative development of the traditional fair, and enterprises should try to follow new trends in foreign trade, said an official of Wuxi Municipal Bureau of Commerce.
