Wuxi, China's first pilot area for developing internet of vehicles (IoV), hosted a provincial meeting for the construction of IoV pilot areas in Jiangsu on May 9.
China has long been focused on the development of IoV, which has been seen as the key to relieving pressure on transportation systems, reducing energy consumption and minimizing carbon emissions.
Boasting a strong industrial base for internet of things and an advanced information network, Wuxi started working on its IoV sector in 2016, establishing a comprehensive testing base for unmanned vehicles and IoVs.
In 2018, the first city-level internet of vehicles LTE-V2X (vehicle-to-everything) application demonstration area was built in Wuxi. Over the past two years, Wuxi has transformed nearly 280 road intersections and over 500 roadside facilities in the urban area and Taihu New City to facilitate IoV testing.
The LTE-V2X communication network fully covers the 220-square-meter demonstration area, which is world's largest city-level C-V2X network and the first city-level demonstration area built on open roads.
In addition, Wuxi has built a complete cloud system for IoV which can facilitate data exchange for traffic management and travel services based on IoV big data center, V2X data application service center and more, according to Wuxi Vice-Mayor Gao Yaguang on the meeting.

Gao noted that in order to further promote the development of IoV, Wuxi will continue to cooperate with institutions and enterprises on the research and development of IoV applications, the construction of IoV standard systems, 5G-V2X technologies and IoV information safety.
With the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region, Wuxi will deepen cooperation with other cities and provinces to develop and introduce key enterprises and contribute to IoV development in Jiangsu province, Gao said.
During the meeting, officials spoke about the top 10 projects for IoV development in Jiangsu, as well as the various leading innovative technologies and products related to IoV. The Alliance of China Internet of vehicles Demonstration Zone was also launched during the meeting.
