Wuxi promoted many of its must-see tourist sites and sold tickets through livestreaming sessions in an effort to revitalize tourism on May 19.
Behind the new move is a multi-billion dollar livestreaming market in the country, where Chinese consumers are increasingly enticed to spend money through the promotion of various goods and services in livestreaming events.
Over 3,000 tourism products were sold at highly discounted prices, some of which sold out in 10 seconds or less. A total of 537,000 viewers watched the livestreaming event.
In addition, a total of 46 tourist attractions in Wuxi will provide special offers for local residents from May 19 to 25 in response to China Tourism Day, which falls on May 19 every year.

All four 5A-level tourist attractions in Wuxi are offering great benefits. The Wuxi TV production base, including the Town of the Three Kingdoms and the Town of the Water Margin, will reduce prices by half to 75 yuan ($10.5). For Lingshan Mountain Scenic Area and Yuantouzhu Scenic Area, the price will also be reduced by 50 percent to 105 yuan and 45 yuan respectively. Visitors can also spend 35 yuan to visit the Huishan Ancient Town.
Citizens will be able to visit Helv Relics Museum and Dangkou Ancient Town for free, while Wuxi Zoo is promoting preferential sets of tickets – a 60 yuan ticket will include access to Wuxi Sea Park.
Wuxi citizens can enjoy preferential treatment when presenting an identification card, residence permit or student identity card at ticket offices.
As tourism safety is still stressed, tickets to visit all the tourist attractions in Wuxi should be booked online in advance.
