Wuxi's foreign trade volume totaled 53.86 billion yuan ($7.62 billion) in April, up 6.7 percent year-on-year and marking growth for the first time this year, according to Wuxi Customs on June 3.
In a demonstration of its economic recovery, the city's exports increased by 15 percent year-on-year in April to reach 31.63 billion yuan, a growth of 29.3 percentage points over the first quarter.
According to Wuxi Customs, the integrated circuit segment, which revolves around semiconductor packaging and testing products, has had a positive effect on the growth of exports thanks to leading foreign trade enterprises such as South-Korean-based SK Hynix and Chinese chip packaging and test company JCET Group.
The city's export of integrated circuits has grown significantly since February. In April, its exports rose by 27.2 percent yearly, showing a higher contribution rate of 28.7 percent to growth on exports.
Wuxi's medical products manufacturers exported a number of masks and protective suits in the first four months of this year, amounting to 1.31 billion yuan. A total of 16 enterprises have been included in the white list of medical manufacturers for epidemic prevention and control.
Wuxi Sunan Shuofang International Airport also made use of some international passenger flights to carry out air cargo operations. The flight from Wuxi to Jakarta, Indonesia with a stop in Manila, Philippines flies three times a week, carrying nearly 13 tons of cargo at a time.
