Wuxi ranked fourth in terms of business environment among Chinese cities with active economies in a 2019 ranking published by the China Media Group on June 18.
The city has been striving to build a world-class business-friendly environment and satisfy the demands of market entities, according to Wuxi Mayor Du Xiaogang during a video-call.
According to Du, as the birthplace of China's modern industry and commerce, Wuxi has been a manufacturing leader in the country for more than 100 years. It has a tradition of valuing business and providing beneficial government services.
Wuxi has been promoting the upgrading and transformation of its business environment in recent years. Construction on the Shanghai Huahong Integrated Circuit Wuxi IC Base, valued at $10 billion, began just seven months after the base was signed into effect and was finished in 19 months.
In the first quarter of 2019, the output of Wuxi's integrated circuit industry rose 23.3 percent to reach 30.15 billion yuan ($4.26 billion), at a time when most industries were struggling due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
In April, Wuxi unveiled 60 measures as part of efforts to further optimize the business environment. These measures include improving government service efficiency, building a standardized market environment and promoting a fair legal system.
This is the second list released by China Media Group ranking Chinese cities in terms of business environment. Its evaluation system includes infrastructure, human resources, financial services, government services and inclusive innovation.
