GE Healthcare China, a subsidiary of US industrial conglomerate General Electric Co (GE), launched its first batch of high-end ventilators produced in China on June 22, which will be put into production in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province.
The high-end ventilator is CARECAPE R860, the most high-end invasive ventilator yet produced by GE Healthcare. It will be used for the treatment of critically ill patients whose respiratory condition and/or hypoxemia cannot be alleviated after noninvasive ventilation.
The intelligent and accurate lung function assessment and intelligent nutrition support program provided by R860 is the key to saving lives. It can monitor detailed data related to residual volume and energy metabolism, which can help doctors to assess the resilience of the lungs and the effect of lung recruitment maneuvers, and reduce the risk of lung injury in patients. It is currently the only ventilator in the industry that can achieve both of the above functions.
According to GE Healthcare China, the high-end ventilators will aid anti-epidemic efforts around the world and support the construction of a "preventive public health system".
The Wuxi factory of GE Healthcare China has been upgraded to meet the requirements of intelligent manufacturing capabilities and supply chain reliability in just three months' time. It is expected to produce 1,000 high-end ventilators per month.
Jiang Min, Party sectary of Wuxi National Hi-tech District, expected more cooperation with GE Healthcare China in the future to co-build an innovative medical ecosystem benefiting Chinese people in Wuxi.
