Wuxi will host a five-month sports league from August, inviting all the residents in Wuxi to return to sports activities in their daily life.
Thousands of sports competitions and events will be held until the end of 2020, featuring sports dancing, karate, football, basketball and fencing. Toddlers will be able to take part in the teenagers' competitions for physical coordination and comprehensive functions, according to officials.
To raise people's interest in sports, 230,000 coupons worth 3 million yuan ($430,000) for sports centers and venues will be given to sports lovers by Wuxi Sports Bureau from Aug 8.
All the participants will be asked to have their body temperature taken and show their health QR code before participating in competitions. Organizers said they will also stress the importance of safety and health on posters and new media platforms, aiming to ensure a successful event.
As the novel coronavirus outbreak in China becomes more subdued, many national competitions postponed due to the epidemic will be held in Wuxi in the second half of the year, including the Yangtze River Delta Fencing Open and Wuxi International Marathon.
