A modern makeover to the roads, buildings along the street, walking paths and leisure parks will be seen in Zhaqiao town in Wuxi's Xishan district in the near future, local media reported on Aug 25.
Similar improvements will also be carried out in Xin'an subdistrict in the city's Xinwu district, as part of government work to improve the appearance of roads to better match city development.
The latest technologies will be applied to local food markets, outdoor parking areas and bus stations in these old blocks.

More parking spaces will also be added there. An underground parking lot will be built in the Xin'an Agriculture Food Market, and 60 more parking spaces will be created in Nanlu Street Park in Zhaqiao town.
Improvements to the living environment in old blocks started in 2019. Workers have checked underground pipelines in Zhaqiao and Xin'an to change aging pipes and rearrange outdoor electric wiring.
Officials from related municipal departments said more old blocks and streets will be rebuilt in the future, with their unique culture and history preserved in the renovations.
