With less than three days to go until the second Grand Canal Culture and Tourism Expo hits the city streets on Sept 3, much of the preparation work for the highly anticipated event has already been completed.
The Wuxi section of the Grand Canal has been cleaned up and embellished, especially in Liangxi district -- where the opening ceremony will be held.
Work has been done to renovate Jiejingqiao Road, the only motor vehicle entrance to the Qingming Bridge Historical Culture Block during the opening ceremony. Seven parking lots and 41 public toilets in the area have been upgraded.
Guests from home and abroad will be invited to take a boat trip at night during the opening ceremony, starting from the Wuxi Canal Park, and enjoy live performances at 12 spots on both sides of the Grand Canal along the way.
In order to provide participants with the best night views, lights along the Grand Canal and on high-rise buildings in the downtown area have been improved.
During the boat trip, guests will learn about the history, culture and close interaction between the Grand Canal and Wuxi residents from the guide. Wuxi's famous pastry store Muguiying Pastry Food will also provide traditional specialties on the boat.
