The second Grand Canal Culture and Tourism Expo concluded at its main venue in Wuxi, Jiangsu province on Sept 6. It received over 100,000 on-site visits and 200 million online visits, according to a press conference by organizers.
The expo, starting on Sept 3, showcased the rich culture along the Beijing-Hangzhou canal, a world heritage site, injecting new momentum into the local culture and tourism industries, including food, accommodation, shopping, and entertainment.
By 11 am on Sept 6, 1.7 million yuan ($248,663.63) in creative cultural products, more than 300,000 yuan in tourism packages for recommended travel routes, and more than 2 million yuan in food from local time-honored brands had been sold at the expo.
The 5G Grand Canal exhibition, the intangible cultural heritage experience area, and the museum exhibition were especially popular at this year's expo. Pottery, crystals, embroidery, and Yixing purple clay from Jiangsu province were among the most popular products.
The expo offered artistic and travel opportunities, creative cultural products, stage performances, delicious food, and nighttime shopping and entertainment.
Nearly 100 foreign envoys and representatives of overseas cultural, tourism, and commerce offices in China from 28 countries and regions attended the expo, strengthening cultural exchange between canal cities and the rest of the world.
In addition, 3D, 5G, 8K, AR, VR and holographic technologies were used to showcase the beauty and explore the development of the Grand Canal.
