With fall semester approaching, nearly 130,000 college students have begun registering at universities in Wuxi.
This month marked the opening of two new campuses in Wuxi – a new campus of Nanjing University of Science and Technology in Jiangyin and a new campus of Southeast University in Binhu, enriching the city's higher education.
The city is in the process of improving its higher education system as more university campuses are built and more universities and colleges are approved for "first-class" disciplines.
College students from local universities are an important resource for the city's development. The city has implemented a series of measures to encourage them to work and start businesses there.
Statistics show that every year, nearly 30 percent of students at Jiangnan University and nearly 70 percent of students at Taihu College choose to stay in Wuxi.
Zhang Jiwen, vice president of the new Wuxi campus of Southeast University, said the campus will focus on innovation in high-end chips and micro-nano fabrication and will enhance cooperation with enterprises and research institutes to better educate students.
The new Wuxi campus of Nanjing University of Science and Technology welcomed more than 2,300 new students on Sept 9.
Mei Jinchun, vice president of the campus, said its colleges of engineering, smart manufacturing, and industrial internet will help develop key local industries.
According to the city's education bureau, Wuxi is looking to cooperate with some of the world's top universities to enhance international education and build art institutions to enrich the local culture industry.
