Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province hosted the 2020 China Nighttime Economy Forum on Oct 24.
The forum, themed on the digital economy and scene construction, gave guests an opportunity to discuss how to promote the development of the nighttime economy in China.
Wuxi, along with Nanjing and Suzhou, both in Jiangsu province, was included among the top 20 Chinese cities in terms of nighttime economy, according to a report released during the forum.
The report said that as digital concepts and technologies became more pervasive in the society, the nighttime economy should also develop based on digital economy to achieve better development.
Dai Bin, director of the China Tourism Academy, said that with improved infrastructure and public services, the cultural atmosphere and business environment should increase the competitiveness of the nighttime economy.
A cultural space that is innovative, inclusive, and embedded in everyday life in a subtle way is what the nighttime economy should be, said Dai.
Wu Guoping, chairman of Wuxi Lingshan Cultural Tourism Group, said that technology has the ability to improve night tours.
Technology companies such as Huawei, Dajiang, and iFLYTEK are deeply involved in nighttime cultural activities and tourism, said Zhao Yijing of the China Tourism Academy.

The local Wuxi government has strengthened efforts to develop its nighttime economy by encouraging nighttime business activity and later closing times at museums and art galleries.
Nighttime activities such as light shows, boat tours, and intangible cultural heritage-themed performances were popular among visitors during this year's National Day holiday. The city's top 10 nighttime destinations, including the Qingming Bridge scenic area, Nianhuawan scenic area, Wanda Cultural Tourism City, and Feima Water Town, were packed with visitors during the holiday.
