An aquatic landscape ecological corridor will be built along the bank of the Jiuli River in Wuxi's Xishan district, the local government announced on Nov 3.
The ecological corridor will be centered on the Jiuli River Wetland Park and run for about 18 kilometers from Fangcheng Avenue to Duzheng Road. The route will connect five parks, including a sports park, a waterfront park, an urban living room, a wetland park and a central park.
According to the announcement, efforts will be made to improve the hydrophilic landscape on both sides of the river.
The sports park's essential venues have been mostly completed, while landscape greening, trails and supporting facilities in the park are being finalized. The sporting area will be completed and put into use by the end of the year.
A project manager said that many small rivers dug in the sports park will be connected with the main branch of the Jiuli River as part of the project.
The Yunlin Waterfront Park, located along the river to the east of the intersection at Chunjiang Road and Tuanjie Road, is being constructed in three phases. Once completed, it is expected to be an ideal place for nearby residents to enjoy leisure activities and get some exercise.
Officials responsible for the project said that after they finish construction of the five parks, they will improve the quality of the river water and ecosystem to build a "green belt" in Xishan district.
