Construction has finished on the main body of the pedestrian bridge on the north side of Huaigu Branch Road intersection and running across Jiefang South Road, local media reported Nov 11.
The main body of the newly built pedestrian bridge spans 30 meters with a width of 4.2 to 7.2 meters. It is the first two-way escalator pedestrian bridge built in Wuxi, and was planned to ease traffic for large numbers pedestrians and ensure their safety.

The pedestrian bridge was built in the shape of a slim black-awning boat by the design team led by Zhang Ming, deputy director of the department of architecture at Shanghai-based Tongji University.
The unique shape not only shows characteristics of Wuxi as an ancient water town, but also saves landing space as it is thinner and lower than most pedestrian bridges.
The arched stairway was built to avoid the impact of the pier foundation on the air defense area and provide a space for functions such as rest and cultural promotions under the arch.
With green landscaping and lights, the pedestrian bridge is also an ideal place from which to enjoy views of downtown Wuxi.
The project was planned by the government of Liangxi district and construction started in February 2020. It is expected to open to the public in the near future after passing inspection.
