He Guanghua, director of the cable transportation and inspection room of Wuxi Main Electricity Supply Company of State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Company, was honored as a model worker at a gathering at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Nov 24, local media reported.
A total of eight model workers and three exemplary individuals working in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province were recognized by the state this year.
He has been constructing, operating and maintaining power cables for over 20 years and is also devoted to scientific and technological innovation in order to promote the transformation and upgrading of power cable construction in China.
He's work has led to more than 50 national patents and created benefits amounting to over 1 billion yuan ($152.3 million).
"Core technologies cannot simply be bought," said He, "the great rejuvenation and prosperity of the Chinese nation requires joint efforts of front-line skilled workers."

The other seven national model workers from Wuxi included Zhou Jianping, chairman of Heilan Group; Wang Quanzhi, director of production department of Wuxi Muguiying Food Court Co; Guo Junwei, senior sample designer of Hodo Group; Chen Liang, an advanced technician from Wuxi Micro Research Co Ltd; Xiong Baoxing, farmer of Yixing Baoxing Family Farm; Yuan Caifeng, a director of Denso Corp; and Lu Zhilin, director of technology department of Wuxi Xishan Special Ventilator Co.
The three exemplary individuals included Chu Xiaoyue, deputy director of Yixing public security bureau; Ren Yong, head of the Red Ribbon Care Center of Wuxi No 5 People's Hospital; and Xu Xiamin, director of occupation skill appraisal institute at the Wuxi Machinery and Electron Higher Professional and Technical School.
The gathering, which honored a total of 1,689 people as national role model workers and 804 as exemplary individuals, called for efforts to promote and encourage the spirit of model workers, the value of work, and the pursuit of fine workmanship.
