Construction on five projects worth 8.5 billion yuan ($1.3 billion) in the Wuxi Economic Development Zone started on Dec 25.
The five projects include the Wuxi International Convention Center, the Future Center of Xuelang IoT Town, the Xinfa Digital Economy Innovation Center, the Wuxi Branch of Sam's Club, and the Fund Park.
The Wuxi International Convention Center will be built north of the Wuxi Taihu International Expo Center and is expected to serve as the permanent venue of the World Internet of Things Expo.
The project will cost 4.1 billion yuan and consist of a 124,000-square-meter convention center and an 83,000-square-meter hotel. The center is expected to start operating in August 2023.

In addition, Sam's Club, the high-end membership store of global retail giant Walmart, is expected to open its first membership store in Wuxi.
The store covers an area of 75,300 square meters and will be located on the northeast side of the intersection of Guanshan Road and Gonghu Avenue. It will become a shopping and entertainment destination prioritizing item selection, shopping experience, the design of the space and member service areas.
The Future Center of Xuelang IoT Town will work to promote the integrated development of manufacturing and high-end industries by focusing on the development of internet of things, cloud computing, big data, artificial intelligence, and other new-generation information technology industries.
Officials have said that the new projects will support the industrial development of Wuxi and help improve its urban competitiveness.
