The fifth session of the 14th Wuxi Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) commenced in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province on Jan 18.
More than 400 CPPCC members from all walks of life participated in the session to debate the work of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC Wuxi Committee and to make suggestions for deliberations.
During the four-day session, the CPPCC members will listen to and discuss the speeches of the main leaders of the municipal Party committee, as well as review the work report of the CPPCC Standing Committee and the report regarding the work on proposals since the last session.
They will also attend the fifth session of the 16th Wuxi Municipal People's Congress and hear the government's work report.
CPPCC members will also submit proposals to the committee to give their ideas on helping build Wuxi into a city with a strong economy, rich and diverse population, beautiful environment, as well as a highly civilized society.
By 5 pm on Jan 17, the CPPCC municipal committee had received about 150 proposals, including ideas on promoting the technological innovation of the Taihu Bay Belt, improving the city's pension system, bolstering the city's business environment, as well as working on building a civilized city.
