The gross domestic product (GDP) of Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province totaled 1.237 trillion yuan ($191.5 billion) in 2020, according to the government report released by Wuxi Mayor Du Xiaogang during the fifth session of the 16th Wuxi Municipal People's Congress on Jan 19.
Du noted that Wuxi made historic progress during the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020) period. In 2015, the city's GDP totaled 868.1 billion yuan.
Wuxi leads Jiangsu province in terms of scientific and technological progress and its internet of things (IoT) industrial scale.
In 2020, Wuxi's IoT industry generated 310 billion yuan in revenue, while the industrial value of integrated circuits produced in the city totaled 135 billion yuan. The revenue of the city's biomedical industry exceeded 100 billion yuan.
A total of 162 Wuxi-based enterprises have been listed on domestic and overseas stock exchanges. The market value of all A-share listed companies in Wuxi exceeded 1.2 trillion yuan in 2020.
Du spoke highly of the efforts made at all levels to boost the city's competitiveness and build a moderately prosperous society in all respects.
Du also expressed gratitude and respect to those who contributed to the fight against COVID-19.
Du noted that the city will continue to focus on 10 areas as it seek to build a better society, including technological innovation, modern industry development, business environment, integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta, living environment, culture, education and city management.
