Wuxi recently released a series of measures to encourage migrant workers at key construction sites to stay in the city where they are working during the Spring Festival, aiming to strengthen its COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control efforts.
In order to ensure workers' welfare and enterprises' production during the Spring Festival holiday from Feb 11 to 17, migrant workers on sites of construction projects like the Yixing-Mashan Fast Track and Gaolang Road Expressway have received a subsidy of 2,000 yuan ($309.7) and a package of goods for use during the Spring Festival worth more than 500 yuan each, according to the municipal key construction project management center.
Sun Ye, a worker at the construction site of Yixing-Mashan Fast Track project, has decided to spend the holiday away from his home of Northeast China's Heilongjiang province. He has made video calls to reassure his family of his decision.
In addition, a total of 25 tourist attractions in the city will offer free admission to migrant workers during the Spring Festival. The management center of the Yixing-Mashan Fast Track construction site also organized migrant workers to sign up for a free tour at the city's four 5A-level scenic spots from Feb 12 to 14.
Cultural and recreational activities will also be organized during the Spring Festival on each construction site, such as a dinner party on New Year's Eve.
