Liangxi district, the downtown area of Wuxi, used to be made up of Chong'an, Nanchang, and Beitang districts, all of which ceased to exist in October 2015.
Liangxi district borders Xishan district to the east, Huishan district to the north and west, and Binhu district to the south. Covering an area of 71.5 square kilometers and administering 16 sub-districts, it is the political, economic, and cultural center of Wuxi.
Rapid developments have occurred in Liangxi district over the past five years.
In 2020, the GDP of the district reached 137.26 billion yuan ($21.12 billion), a year-on-year increase of 6.5 percent. The revenue of emerging industries such as internet of things (IoT), big data, and cloud computing has achieved a growth of more than 15 percent per year for the past three years.
The district has renovated 7.93-million square meters of old residential areas and 1.43nmillion square meters of shanty towns over the past five years, and a total of 767,000 square meters of green area and gardens have been developed.
Water and air quality in the district has improved significantly as well with 614 waste prevention and control projects being carried out in the past five years.
Liangxi district is also home to the city's first 5G and big data innovation park, Kingsoft Cloud's IoT headquarters, and the world's first mass production base for the smallest-size Micro LED display products using mass transfer technology.
The district has also become a popular tourism destination, with popular attractions including Xiaolou Lane Historic and Cultural Block and the Qingming Bridge scenic area.
Xu Lixin, Party secretory of Liangxi district, said that during the 14th Five Year Plan period (2021-25), the district will work to improve the innovative development of industries, tourism, culture, and the living environment.
