A smart agriculture platform and intelligent pig-breeding base started operating in Wuxi's Huishan district on March 1.
Huishan district provides about 60 percent of local agricultural products.
The newly-built platform will make use of the internet, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence to develop precision planting and smart farming in the district.
Meanwhile, the intelligent pig-breeding base received a total of 100 million yuan ($15.45 million) in investment and is located in Rongdong Village at the junction of Huishan district, Jiangyin, and Changzhou. It covers a total area of 26 hectares and has a designed production capacity of 15,000 pigs per year.
The modern, intelligent, and automated breeding system used at the base is expected to transform pig breeding, according to officials.
A total of 11 agriculture projects with a total of 1.5 billion yuan in investment also started construction in Huishan district on March 1.
The projects involve planting, breeding, agricultural-product processing, and rural tourism. One of the projects, a vegetable base, will receive 100 million yuan in investment and consist of 43.3 hectares of vegetable growing land and 23.3 hectares of high-efficiency rice growing land. Supporting facilities for logistics and processing will be built as well.
