Yixing, a prefecture-level city in Wuxi, signed with Wuxi's Binhu district to build an industrial base for healthcare and life science on April 20.
According to the deal, the two sides will work together to build five production bases in Yixing that focus on biomedicine, diagnostic reagents, high-end medical equipment consumables, Chinese medicine (raw materials), and new veterinary drugs.
Related enterprises in the Wuxi National Life Science Park in Binhu district will work toward the incubation of the biomedical industry and clinical services. Those in the Yixing Environmental Protection Technology Industrial Park will carry out pilot tests on R&D results and build production bases and supporting facilities.
The new industrial base to be built in Yixing is expected to house over 100 biomedicine enterprises within the next five to eight years. Its annual output is expected to reach 50 billion yuan ($7.7 billion), according to officials.
Agreements for a number of key projects in the new park were also signed. Phagelux Biotech Co will build a phage research and development, production, and operation center to produce early biological pesticides and biological products to supplement or substitute for antibiotics. The annual output of the project is expected to reach 200 million yuan.
By the end of 2020, government officials from Yixing and Binhu district had reached a consensus on further cooperation in healthcare, life science, integrated circuits, culture, and tourism.
