The Ehu Rose Cultural Park is the largest rose-themed park in Wuxi's Xishan district and attracts many visitors due to its beautiful scenery.
With roughly 500 species of roses and rosa chinensis spread throughout the park, it is an ideal place to admire flowers and enjoy some great views.
The park is home to a number of old rosa chinensis trees with nearly 10,000 flowers blooming every spring. Rosa chinensis, commonly known as the China rose, has five-petal flowers that are pink and red in color.
If looking at roses and enjoying the intoxicating fragrance is not enough, people can also buy various rose products in the park, including rose cakes, rose tea, and rose-scented cosmetic products. People can also participate rose-themed activities and learn how to make rose cakes and rose pottery.
Cheng Yajuan, founder of the park, was born into a gardening family and when her father was diagnosed with Alzheimer's she decided to open the park to help senior citizens.
"Cinnamomum camphora" were some of the first words Cheng's father said after his health blip, which strengthened Cheng's resolve to build a rose park.
Covering an area of 233,000 square meters, it took three years to turn the once deserted lakeshore into a recreational park. The park has provided jobs to local flower farmers and allowed a small but profitable rose product business to thrive.
By producing goods and attracting tourists, the rose park has managed to achieve a balance between economic and social benefits.
