Yixing, East China's Jiangsu province, signed a deal with China's esteemed Tsinghua University to build the Jiang Nanxiang Memorial Hall in Beijing on April 24 in celebration of Tsinghua's 110th anniversary the next day.
Jiang Nanxiang, born in Yixing in 1931, is a Chinese scholar and educator who led Chinese youth movements. In November 1952, three years after the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Ministry of Education appointed Jiang as president of Tsinghua University.
During his tenure until 1966, Jiang devoted himself to socialist education with Chinese characteristics.
The Jiang Nanxiang Memorial Hall will be built inside the TIPark of the Yixing Economic and Technological Development Zone and cover an area of about 5,000 square meters with elements of the campus of Tsinghua.
The hall will display artifacts and other items relating to Jiang Nanxiang to show his experiences fighting for the Chinese revolution, construction, and reform, and promote his vision as a politician and an educator.
The hall is expected to become an education center for Party history and a communication platform for graduates from Tsinghua University..
Located at the former site of the Qing Dynasty's (1644-1911) royal gardens in the Chinese capital of Beijing, Tsinghua University became the first Asian educational institution to break into the top 20 in the 2021 Forbes world rankings.
