Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province made the top 10 of the China's 100 strongest cities in 2021 list, Warton Economic Institute reported at a seminar on May 21.
The results were determined by analyzing GDP criteria, including household savings, government revenue, environment, science and education, as well as culture and health. It came to the conclusion that Beijing was China's top city, followed by Shanghai, as well as Shenzhen and Guangzhou in South China's Guangdong province.
Ranking fifth to 10th were the East China cities of Hangzhou in Zhejiang province, as well as Nanjing and Suzhou in Jiangsu province, followed by Chengdu in Sichuan province, Wuhan in Central China's Hubei province, and Wuxi in Jiangsu province.
The top 100 cities created a combined GDP of 71.81 trillion yuan in 2020, accounting for 70.68 percent of the nation's total.
Wuxi has seen rapid growth in its comprehensive strength in recent years, especially in economy and industries.
In 2020, the city's GDP was 1.24 trillion yuan. The per capita GDP reached 165,800 yuan based on the latest census data, ranking first in Jiangsu province. The industrial output value above designated size accounted for 15 percent of the province's total.
The city is home to eight industrial clusters, with each boasting a scale of over 100 billion yuan, including the internet of things, integrated circuits, and biomedicine. A total of 166 companies based in Wuxi have been listed.
The city's contribution rate of scientific and technological progress reached 66.7 percent in 2020, ranking first in Jiangsu province for the eighth consecutive year, according to officials.
