The 2021 Forum of Major Leaders of the Yangtze River Delta took place in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province, on May 27.
The Yangtze River Delta consists of the municipality of Shanghai and the provinces of Zhejiang, Jiangsu, and Anhui.
Covering an area of 358,000 square kilometer, the Yangtze River Delta is one of the most populated and urbanized areas in China, contributing a quarter of the country's gross domestic product.
Li Qiang, secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, said that the Yangtze River Delta region should give full play to its strengths and continue to explore the institutional mechanisms and path models for regional integrated development, establish a sound, unified and open market system, jointly build a regional scientific and technological innovation community, and take the lead in establishing a new and open economic system.
Lou Qinjian, Party secretary of Jiangsu province, reviewed the achievements in the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta since the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, especially in 2020.
Over the past three years, efforts have been made on the integrated and high-quality development of the Yangtze River Delta, Lou noted.
Lou said Jiangsu province should work together with other provinces and cities to create a high-level technology supply and high-efficiency industrial cycles, strengthen the support of high-quality talent, and build a high-standard infrastructure system in China.
Yuan Jiajun, Party secretary of Zhejiang province, stressed the importance of technological innovation, digital reform, and green development in the further integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta.
Cities in the Yangtze River Delta should promote integration in industrial innovation, including deal with core problems in science and innovation, promote the transformation of industrial technology through digital methods, deepen the links of research, production, supply, and marketing with regional partners, develop a green low-carbon economy, and perfect the business environment with better services, said Li Jinbin, Party secretary of Anhui province.
The Yangtze River Delta Scientific and Technological Innovation Community Construction Office, as well as four industry chain alliances for integrated circuits, biomedicine, artificial intelligence, and new energy vehicles, was launched at the forum.
