This year marks the centenary of the Communist Party of China. China has witnessed rapid development thanks to the leadership and organizational capacity of the CPC.
Wuxi, a historical city with eye-catching scenery located in East China's Jiangsu province, has been an industrial leader in the country for more than 100 years in terms of manufacturing prowess. Today it continues to lead with its development of advanced technology.
From 1949 to 2020, Wuxi's gross domestic output skyrocketed from 274 billion yuan ($42.27 billion) to 1.24 trillion yuan. In 2017, it became the nation's 14th city to achieve a GDP greater than 1 trillion yuan due to years of industrial upgrading and structural reform.
Located in Wuxi's Xishan district, Wuxi No 1 Cotton Mill was built in 1919 and has gained country-wide fame as a cotton textiles factory. Compared with in the 1980s, the company's labor force has been reduced by three-quarters, while its production scale has expanded five-fold with smart manufacturing technologies.
Statistics show that as of the end of 2020, the number of industrial enterprises above designated size in Wuxi reached 6,241, a net increase of 1,180 compared to its 2015 total. More leading enterprises are developing in the city, with the annual revenue of four enterprises exceeding 100 billion yuan and 37 others exceeding 10 billion yuan.
In 2009, Wuxi was tasked by the State Council to construct China's national sensor network innovation demonstration zone to support the development of the digital economy.
Since then, the zone has been working towards creating what it calls the "Sensing China Center," which is focused on demonstrating internet of things applications across all areas of society, from transportation to life at home.
In 2020, the total revenue yielded by IoT companies in Wuxi surged to 310 billion yuan, ranking first in the province.
To deepen the implementation of smart manufacturing engineering, as well as to promote the in-depth integration of new generation information technology and manufacturing, Wuxi strives to build a complete system from standards, products, equipment, and production lines to system solution providers.
During the 13th Five Year Plan (2016-20) period, Wuxi built 10 national-level smart manufacturing demonstration application projects, three provincial-level smart factories, 124 smart workshops, and eight provincial key industrial internet platforms.
