Two individuals from Wuxi were awarded the national honorary title "outstanding Party member" in Beijing on June 28 ahead of the centenary of the CPC's founding.
Ye Cong, chief designer of China's latest manned submersible Fendouzhe, is the deputy director of the No 702 Institute of the China Ship Scientific Research Center in Wuxi, a modern manufacturing hub in East China's Jiangsu province.
The project was launched in 2016 as a vital part of the country's deep-sea technology and equipment blueprint plan for the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20).
Being China's largest ship and ocean engineering research institute, the center is behind the success of all of the country's three deep-sea manned submersibles, including Jiaolong, Shenhai Yongshi (Deep Sea Warrior), and Fendouzhe.
"I'm a Party member, a worker at the No 702 Institute of the China Ship Scientific Research Center, and a researcher in the field of deep-sea manned submersibles," said Ye, "The honor is a positive judgment of my work and encourages me to continue working hard at what I am good at."
