Many senior citizens in Shanjuan village, Yixing, Jiangsu province have their meals at the local elderly service center, according to officials.
The elderly service center, sponsored by the local government, started providing lunches and dinners to people aged above 70 two years ago.
By paying 50 yuan ($7.7) per month, people between the ages of 70 and 80 can have one meal per day at the center, while those aged 80 to 90 can have two meals. The center provides meals for free for people aged over 90.
People who wish to eat at the center also have the option to be picked up and transported there by car.
Yixing has established 57 such elderly service centers and eight regional-level ones in an effort to provide a diverse array of services to senior citizens.
Qiu Meiling, director of the Hufu Elder Care Center, said the center has cooperated with other centers to provide various short tourism routes for the elderly living there.
Yixing has been working to develop its medical and healthcare industries in recent years.
The Yada Health Ecological Industrial Park, which will serve as a tourist distribution center for the Yangxian Eco-tourism Resort, will open to the public in September.
Yixing is currently home to 35 elderly service organizations, among which 27 are privately operated.
People over 60 years of age account for 30.42 percent of the city's total population, according to the publicity department of Yixing.
