Yixing ranked second among China's 100 counties and county-level cities with the highest quality of life, according to research by the Insight China magazine affiliated with the Qiushi magazine.
The research was carried out in 2,757 counties throughout China, evaluating people's economic lives, cultural lives, political lives, social lives, and environmental lives.
Evaluations were based on four weighted indicators: network data analysis, county-level special surveys, public attitudes, and expert opinions. Billions of information sources were collected in order to make the evaluation as comprehensive as possible.
Things like doctors per thousand people, average life expectancy, and per capita housing area were also taken into consideration.
Yixing is known for its famed purple clay art and spectacular natural scenery.
The city has given priority to improving its environment while also developing rural tourism. It designated an area of 724.97 square kilometers as ecological space, accounting for 36 percent of the city's total area.
Yixing has spent over 5 billion yuan (772.1 million) improving the living environment in its rural towns by building standardized modern houses for farmers and increasing people's civility. 233 farming families living in Hufu town will move into newly-built houses in the near future.
