The opening ceremony of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games was held at Olympic Stadium in Tokyo, Japan on July 23, featuring various top performances.
Jiangsu Shizhan Group, a Wuxi-based producer of stage trusses, was responsible for the construction of the truss system of the main stage for these performances.
In 2015, Nishio Rent All Co, a Japanese supplier for the performing arts and exhibition industry, proposed a deal to Jiangsu Shizhan Group that the Wuxi company would be a Tokyo Olympics supplier if they could meet the technical requirements.
Over the next two years, the company concentrated on researching related technologies for deformation control of aluminum alloy products to control the distance error of the aluminum alloy truss end face to within 0 to -1 millimeter.
In addition, an advanced 200-ton hydraulic press was introduced to realize the one-time forming of 12 holes on the end face, making the company able to control the end face distance within 0 to 0.5 mm.
Their products received approval from Nishio Rent All Co and won the deal in 2019.
Teng Chunfeng, general manager of Jiangsu Shizhan Group, said that the deal worth 4 billion yuan ($61.52 million) didn't bring them much profit due to investment on R&D and new equipment.
However, Teng still thought the deal was valuable as "it helped improve our scientific research abilities and technical standards."
According to Teng, the company's scientific research funding accounts for 6 to 15 percent of its output value. The company's products were also applied during the grand gathering celebrating the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China in Beijing on July 1.
