The Wuxi Association of Taiwan-funded Enterprises made donations to Central China's flood-hit Henan province on July 30.
The association collected a total of 5.53 million yuan ($855,269) from Taiwan-funded enterprises in Wuxi over a few days, aiming to offer their sympathies to those affected, as well as to assist the recovery of livelihoods and production in Henan province.
More than 9.3 million people in Henan have been affected recently by heavy rainfall and floods, with over 1.1 million people having been relocated to safer places.
Wuxi is one of the cities that is home to a large number of Taiwan-funded enterprises and businessmen from Taiwan. Currently, Wuxi is home to 913 Taiwan-funded enterprises, with $6.8 billion of actual investment. About 3,000 people from Taiwan have worked and lived in Wuxi for a long time.
Founded by Li Weiwen from Taiwan, Wuxi Jingdian Pottery Workshop has been working to develop zisha works and skills in Yixing for over 30 years.
Li was commended for his public welfare contributions. He donated 98 fine zisha teapots to volunteers who donated hematopoietic stem cells in Wuxi on the same day.
