China's largest two-way 170-kilometer open test road cluster for intelligent connected vehicles will be put into operation in various regions of Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province, according to the local bureau of industry and information technology on Aug 7, which was also the World Internet of Things Day.
Officials said that the open test road cluster will connect with authoritative closed test areas like the National Intelligent Traffic Integrated Testing Facility.
The main clusters were built in Xishan district, Binhu district, Xinwu district, and Wuxi Economic Development Zone.
The open test road cluster has created five characteristic scenarios, including typical road tests of intelligent connected vehicles, typical application tests of vehicle-road coordination, special operation vehicle tests, ADAS tests based on the internet of vehicles, as well as the new intelligent roadside facilities tests.
The cluster can provide services for autonomous driving tests, vehicle-road cooperation tests, communication tests, and terminal tests, aiming to promote the large-scale application of intelligent connected vehicles.
In April, Wuxi became one of the first pilot cities for the coordinated development of national smart city infrastructure construction and intelligent connected vehicles, jointly organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, as well as the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
Industry insiders said that the transformation of facility construction into demand-led service capacity construction by Wuxi will effectively promote the rapid development of the intelligent connected vehicles industry or ICV industry.
