Mashan sub-district in the Binhu district of Wuxi was selected as part of the third group of key national rural tourism towns, according to a list recently released by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
Mashan sub-district is located at the southwestern end of Wuxi and the northwestern part of Taihu Lake. It has 12 communities including Qunfeng, Heping and Guzhu.
The sub-district is home to the Heping community, the Guzhu community, and one national key rural tourism village called the Qunfeng community, which includes a 33-hectare leisure garden, over 100 homestays, and two key provincial tourism villages in Jiangsu.
Famous for its sightseeing and agricultural experiences, the Heping community provides visitors with an ideal space to spend the weekend and holidays. The Guzhu community, where folk culture performances such as the horse lantern dance are still popular today, was once promoted on CCTV's Discovery Tour.

The Shibawan scenic area, located in Mashan sub-district, reopened in May after two months of renovations.
A new walking route marked with the colors of the rainbow has attracted much attention since its completion. The 2.5-kilometer track with fluorescent paintings is ideal for those looking to take in the beautiful views of Taihu Lake at any time of the day.
In addition, the new wind tower adorned with 174,000 LED lights at Taihu Lake have become a big hit with visitors. Light shows are held there every night.
