Yixing, a county-level city of Wuxi, has invested over 1.3 billion yuan ($202.8 million) bolstering the water environment of rivers and lakes, as well as surrounding water regions.
As part of their investment, a total of 864 million yuan was used to improve the water environment and ecology of main rivers entering the Taihu Lake, as well as the comprehensive renovation of the lake. The city is also working on a series of projects, such as lakeside ecological belt restoration and the comprehensive management of small watersheds.
In 2020, Yixing created a new plan for over 26.7 hectares of farmland nearby rivers to solve the problems of agricultural non-point source pollution caused by agricultural planting, as well as the unreasonable structure of the water ecosystem in the region.
Currently a 10-kilometer running path along Gehu Lake has become popular with local runners for its wonderful natural views and comfortable running experience. The pleasant ecological environment of Gehu Lake is a result of long-term efforts made by the local government and residents.
Dingshu town in Yixing also plans to build a 2-kilometer walking path with a wonderful landscape besides its water region of Taihu lake. The local government there has removed an old wharf and closed some chemical enterprises nearby the water region to achieve this.
